Over the past several days a number of dramatic changes have occurred in Mother’s condition.
- Three days ago she could suck on a straw, the preferred way of taking in a fair amount of liquids and especially protein milk shakes. And then two days ago she could no longer use a straw.
- Last week she was able to turn in the direction of a voice, but this is not possible anymore.
- Mother now closes her eyes for the most of the day. She moves in and out of sleeping periods, some short and others much longer, but even when she is not asleep Mother’s eyes are closed. When she does open them her eyes seem to be focused on something high up and far away, as if she is focusing on something far in the distance.
- Swallowing is becoming more difficult.
